About Temple

Shri Radha Raman Temple is one of the most revered temples in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, dedicated to Lord Krishna in his beloved form of Radha Raman, meaning “the one who brings joy to Radha.” It is counted among the most important Goswami temples of Vrindavan and holds a special place for Vaishnav devotees. The temple attracts thousands of pilgrims every year who come to witness the divine charm of Radha Raman Ji and experience the serene devotion that surrounds the sacred shrine.

History of the temple

The temple was established in 1542 CE by Gopal Bhatt Goswami, one of the six Goswamis of Vrindavan and a close associate of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. It is believed that Lord Krishna appeared in the form of a Shaligram Shila, which miraculously manifested into the deity of Radha Raman. This divine event marked the foundation of the temple. The current temple structure, built in the 19th century, was funded by royal patrons, and since then, it has been carefully maintained as a centre of devotion and worship.

Significance of the temple

Radha Raman Ji is considered one of the few self-manifested deities of Krishna still worshipped in his original form in Vrindavan. Devotees believe that offering prayers here brings spiritual fulfilment and divine blessings. The temple celebrates major festivals such as Janmashtami, Radhashtami, and Chandan Yatra with grandeur, drawing large gatherings of devotees and saints. The absence of a separate idol of Radha Ji signifies that she is eternally present with Krishna in the deity itself.

Architecture of the temple

The temple is a fine example of traditional North Indian temple architecture, built with red sandstone and intricate carvings. The sanctum houses the black Shaligram deity of Radha Raman adorned with dazzling ornaments and silken clothes. The temple interiors feature beautifully painted walls and arches that reflect the artistic culture of Vrindavan. Within the premises lies the samadhi of Gopal Bhatt Goswami, making it not just a place of worship but also a centre of historical and spiritual heritage.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Kheria Airport in Agra, located about 70 km away from Vrindavan. From there, taxis and buses are available to reach the temple. Another convenient option is Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, which connects internationally and domestically, situated around 160 km from Vrindavan.

Train

Mathura Junction is the closest major railway station, approximately 12 km from Vrindavan. It is well-connected to major cities across India. From the station, one can take taxis, auto-rickshaws, or local buses to reach the temple comfortably.

Road

Vrindavan is easily accessible by road from Mathura and nearby cities. Regular buses operated by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and private operators connect Vrindavan with Delhi, Agra, and other towns. From the Mathura Bus Stand, auto-rickshaws and local transport are readily available to reach the temple premises.
