Chhath Puja is one of the most revered festivals dedicated to Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya. It is a time to express gratitude for life, health, and prosperity. Devotees offer Arghya to the Sun at sunrise and sunset, chanting divine mantras to invite positivity, light, and balance into their lives.

Chhath Puja spans four sacred days, each representing purification, discipline, and devotion. Here’s a glimpse into the rituals observed during this holy festival:
Devotees begin with a holy dip in a river or pond. The house is cleaned and sanctified. A simple meal of kaddu-bhat (bottle gourd and rice) cooked in pure ghee is prepared and consumed — marking the start of purification.
On this day, devotees observe a nirjala vrat (fast without water) from sunrise to sunset. In the evening, after worshipping the setting sun, they break the fast with gur-ki-kheer (sweet porridge made of jaggery and milk) and fruits.
Devotees gather at the riverbank with family and friends to offer Arghya to the setting sun. Special prasad like Thekua, malpua, and coconut sweets are prepared. The air fills with devotional songs, bhajans, and the sound of conch shells.
The final day begins before sunrise. Devotees offer Arghya to the rising sun, seeking blessings for prosperity, good health, and happiness. After prayers, the fast is broken, and prasad is shared among loved ones with joy and gratitude.
