🌕 What is Vaishakh Purnima?

Vaishakh Purnima marks the full moon of the Vaishakh month, the second month in the Hindu lunar calendar. The day holds immense spiritual significance and is observed across India with great devotion.

It is believed that on this sacred day, Lord Satyanarayan blesses devotees who perform puja and fasting with faith and purity.
Interestingly, this day also marks the birth anniversary of Lord Gautama Buddha, making it doubly special—it is celebrated by Hindus as Vaishakh Purnima and by Buddhists as Buddha Purnima.

🪔 Why is Vaishakh Purnima Important?

Vaishakh Purnima is a day of divine blessings, spiritual purification, and renewal of faith.
Devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, observe fasts, and listen to the Satyanarayan Katha, which narrates the glories of truth, devotion, and divine grace.

It is believed that:

  • Fasting on this day pleases Lord Vishnu and removes sins from previous lives.

  • Donating food, clothes, or essentials brings prosperity and spiritual merit.

  • Offering Arghya (sacred water) to the moon at night attracts wealth, peace, and happiness into one’s home.

Even if one cannot fast, performing charity with a pure heart on this day is considered extremely auspicious.

  3. Take a vow to observe the Vaishakh Purnima fast (Vrat).

Puja Steps

  2. Sprinkle Gangajal to purify the space.

  3. Place idols or pictures of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, and Lord Ganesha.

  4. Perform Achaman (sipping water while chanting “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”).

  5. Begin with Lord Ganesha’s worship, offering flowers, roli, and grass (durva).

  6. Apply turmeric-sandal paste to Lord Vishnu and kumkum-turmeric to Goddess Lakshmi.

    • Always include Tulsi leaves for Lord Vishnu.

    • Do not offer Tulsi to Lord Ganesha.

  10. Conclude the puja with aarti and distribute prasad among family and devotees.
