History of the temple

The temple was established approximately 400 years ago by Srila Rupa Goswami, who installed the deities of Radha Damodar and entrusted the care of the temple to Jiva Goswami. It also served as a gathering place for the prominent Goswamis of Vrindavan, including Sanatana Goswami, Raghunath Das Goswami, and Gopal Bhatt, where they conducted discourses and spiritual discussions. Over centuries, the temple has remained a hub for devotional learning and practice.

Significance of the temple

Devotees believe that performing parikrama (circumambulation) around Radha Damodar Temple four times is equivalent to performing the 25-kilometer parikrama of Govardhan Hill. The temple is considered highly auspicious, and visiting it with devotion is said to bring spiritual merit and blessings, especially during major festivals like Janmashtami and Radhashtami.

Architecture of the temple

Radha Damodar Temple exhibits traditional North Indian temple architecture with influences of Rajasthani craftsmanship. The entrance gate features ornate carvings, while the inner courtyard is adorned with beautifully painted ceilings and sculpted pillars. The main altar houses the deities of Radha and Damodar, and the temple premises include the samadhis of Srila Jiva Goswami and other Goswamis, adding to its historical and spiritual significance.

Vrindavan is well-connected by road and is around 185 km from Delhi, reachable in approximately 3–4 hours via Yamuna Expressway and NH 44.
