Sita Ki Rasoi, located close to the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya, is a revered site that symbolizes the domestic life of Goddess Sita. The place is considered her legendary kitchen, where she is believed to have cooked meals after her marriage to Lord Rama. Today, it serves as a temple, with part of the structure designed as an ancient kitchen displaying traditional utensils.

History of the temple

The origins of Sita Ki Rasoi trace back to the Treta Yuga. According to belief, this was the royal kitchen of King Dasharath’s palace. After becoming the queen of Ayodhya, Goddess Sita is said to have prepared meals here. Legends also narrate that Sita once offered food to sages at this very spot, symbolizing her as the nourisher of the world.

Significance of the temple

The temple is strongly associated with the divine aspect of Goddess Sita as Annapoorna, the goddess of nourishment. For this reason, newlywed women visit the shrine to seek blessings for prosperity and harmony in their marital life. It is believed that paying homage here ensures abundance and happiness in the household.

Architecture of the temple

The temple features a simple yet spiritually significant design. Inside, idols of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughna with their consorts are worshipped. Alongside the deities, the shrine preserves replicas of earthen pots and traditional vessels to reflect the sacred kitchen’s history. The blend of mythology and cultural heritage makes the temple unique among Ayodhya’s holy sites.

Ayodhya Railway Station is the closest railhead, situated approximately 4 km from the temple. Visitors can hire autos or taxis from the station to reach the site.
For those traveling by road, Ayodhya has well-connected routes with regular buses operating from nearby cities. The temple can easily be reached by taking a taxi or auto from the central bus depot in Ayodhya.
