Takshakeshwar Nath Temple, situated in Daryabad along the banks of the Yamuna River in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, is a revered Shiva temple. The site is also closely associated with Shri Takshak Nag, the legendary serpent king, who is believed to have taken refuge here after leaving Mathura. History of the temple

Takshakeshwar Nath Temple has ancient origins, with archaeological discoveries in the area revealing old stone sculptures that reflect its historical and spiritual significance. The temple houses multiple Shiva Lingas and idols of deities including Maa Durga, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Hanuman. According to local tradition, the temple was originally hidden in dense forest and later cleared to allow easier access for devotees. Fascinatingly, priests note that snakes visit the temple daily, moving calmly among devotees without causing harm—especially visible during Naga Panchami, Shukla Paksha Panchami, lunar and solar eclipses, Amavasya, and Purnima, continuing a centuries-old mystical tradition.

The temple is believed to be highly powerful for spiritual purification. Devotees hold that darshan of the Shivling here can relieve Kalsarp Dosh and protect against the negative effects of serpents. Over the years, especially during Sawan, the presence of snakes at the temple has been considered a divine phenomenon.
